She will forever be remembered for her peaceful spirit, and the true joy she experienced spending time with her grandchildren and family. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, sewing, piano lessons, decorating, singing, dance aerobics and classical and gospel music. She was also a member of the Order of The Eastern Star (Sisterhood Lodge). LaVerna was a longtime and faithful member of the Mount Hebron Baptist Church and sang in the choir.

She also obtained her cosmetology license which allowed her to practice for several years before she retired from the hospital system. This center is an addiction association too. During this time, she obtained a degree in practical nursing. The Fairbanks Hospital La Verna Lodge for Men offers outpatient care, residential short term care, residential long term care, aftercare, sober living, halfway housing, education, and prevention. After relocating to Houston, she had a successful 28-year career as a Medical Technician with Baylor Hospital and then Methodist Hospital in the Special Chemistry, Pathology Department. To this union, of 53 years, they were blessed with their 3 children. LaVerna taught for a brief time in Tyler before she married Eska and moved to Houston. She graduated from Prairie View A & M University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. LaVerna grew up in Tyler, Texas on her family’s farm. She was strong in her faith, accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at a young age. LaVerna was born in Kemp, Texas on March 18, 1924. She also leaves a sister-in law, Bernice Williams, and a host of other relatives and friends to cherish her memory. Sheila Bernita Sells Belcher and husband, Carl, and Mona Maria Sells Tates and husband, Samuel grandchildren, Carl II, Ryan, Daryl, Samuel II, Devon and Joshua great grandchildren, Jade, Bailey, Jackson, Alexander, Madison, and two more on the way (Lucia and Olivia). Left to cherish her memory is her son, Lynn Ivan Sells and wife, Carolyn daughters, Dr. (Hayden) Williams Sisters, Maye Jo Williams, Serlina Robinson, Pearl Lampkin, and Sandra Williams. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jodie and Obelia Williams husband, Eska C. LaVerna Williams Sells, 96, departed this life to be with her heavenly father on Saturday, July 25, 2020.
